The first day of the two-day workshop “Systemic thinking for strengthening health systems” was held by the Health Equity Research Center (HERC) in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Health and Food Security on December 17, 2022, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with more than 30 experts and specialists from this council participating.
On this day, Dr. Amirhossein Takian, HERC’s Deputy of Research, as the first lecturer, explained the history of systemic thinking, applications, importance and standing, of this new problem solving method in health systems and its role in facing the various and specific challenges of this complex and multi-dimensional system. He then finished by explaining the necessary steps and prerequisites for integrating this method in the decision-making processes of the healthcare system.
Dr. Mohammad Ismail Motlagh, Head of the secretariat of the Supreme Council of Health and Food Security, as the second speaker emphasized on the potential role of systems thinking in researching and studying the challenges of the healthcare system, as well as its capacity for providing appropriate and interdisciplinary solutions for current and future challenges and the need for integrating this method in future decision-making.
During the third part of this workshop, Dr. Abbas Toloe, Professor of the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Management and Economics, Islamic Azad University Science and Research Branch, after giving a brief introduction to the theories and definitions of System Dynamics and its related software, further illustrated and explained the uses and applications of Vansim.
The second and last day of this workshop will be held on Saturday, December 24, 2022, from 9:00 to 15:00, during which the participants will be introduced to various methods of drawing systems and models.
