Limited resources are one of the challenges faced by all types of service-providing systems. But this global issue, which seems to be the main barrier of provision due to the advancing technologies, rising populations, sudden environmental changes, and the various demands of different socioeconomic groups, is not uncontrollable.

The healthcare system, which is one of the most crucial systems, is not an exception when it comes to this global issue and faces a new challenge every time it tries to access the necessary resources; but because of its vital position, these issues must be resolved. An effective and reliable solution is “strategic purchasing.” In the WHO  world health report in 2000, the importance of using this purchasing method as the main strategy to achieve the goals of any healthcare system has been emphasized.

The presented book that is the result of a mixed study, after examining purchasing methods used in other countries, discusses the Iranian healthcare system’s service purchasing strategies and after identifying the determining factors and the challenges of implementing strategic purchasing methods, presents practical solutions. We hope that the publication of this book would assist the improvement of resource allocation and service purchasing strategies in the future of our system.
