With regards of the start of improvements in Iran’s health system in the 90’s and the health reforms following them in 2000, one of the challenges faced by health sector’s crew and emphasized on by WHO’s international consultants was the necessity of improving Iran’s health system’s efficiency.
Considering the fact that most national efficiency evaluation researches in the past were done on a hospital level and the limited resources that is a constant challenge for the health system, the need for a national level and detailed efficiency evaluation was felt.

So the National Institute for Health research in cooperation with the Health Equity Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences gathered forces to collect a report on current efficiency of the country’s health system and ways to improve it so that by using this report, health policy makers can find the focus points of efficiency in order to implement reforms and corrections in the system.
